3PL pricing explained: what you'll actually pay for

3PL quotes can look very different from one provider to the next. Here's how the fees work, so you can compare them fairly.

Short answerMost 3PLs charge for five things: receiving inbound inventory, storage (per pallet, bin or cubic foot per month), fulfillment (per order and per extra item), packaging materials, and shipping postage. Value-added work like FBA prep, kitting or labeling is priced per unit or per hour.

Receiving fees

Charged when inventory arrives — per pallet, per carton, per hour of labor or per container. Floor-loaded containers cost more to receive than palletized ones because they're unloaded by hand. Clear carton labels and an advance shipping notice keep receiving costs down.

Storage fees

Usually monthly, per pallet position, per shelf/bin, or per cubic foot. Slow-moving inventory costs more over time, so reviewing aged stock regularly matters. See our pallet storage cost guide.

Fulfillment (pick and pack) fees

Typically a fee per order plus a smaller fee for each additional item. B2B orders may be priced per carton or per pallet. Custom packing instructions or inserts can add a small per-order charge.

Packaging and shipping

Boxes, mailers and dunnage may be included or billed separately. Postage depends on carrier, weight, dimensions and destination. Right-sized packaging reduces dimensional weight charges.

Value-added services

FBA prep (FNSKU labels, bagging, bundling), kitting, relabeling and rework are usually per unit or per labor hour. Get a sample-based quote for complex projects.

Account fees and minimums

Some 3PLs charge setup, onboarding, software or monthly minimum fees. Ask about them explicitly. Konsey Logistics provides customized pricing for each customer, with no fixed packages and no long-term contracts.

How to compare quotes

Build one realistic month — pallets stored, cartons received, orders, items per order, average package size — and ask each provider to price that scenario. Compare the total, then consider service fit, communication and location.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 3PL cost?

It depends on volume, product size, storage needs and services. Instead of comparing headline rates, ask providers to price your typical month and compare the total.
